Monroe Albert Schatte Sr.

January 2, 1923 - May 28, 2010

Mr. Schatte passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange.

Monroe Albert Schatte Sr. was born on January 2, 1923 in Giddings, Texas to Erich & Ruth (Wenke) Schatte. He was united in marriage to Lucille Noack on November 25, 1951 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin. Mr. Schatte was a lifelong farmer and rancher.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Father and Mother - in- Law, Gerhard O. & Hermine Noack; infant grandson; sister, Magdeline Unger; three brothers, Curtis Schatte, Andrew Schatte and Herman Schatte; brother-inlaw, Milton Noack, Frank Shannan; and two sisters-in-law, Mabel Schatte Unger and Betty Schatte.

Mr. Schatte is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lucille Schatte of Giddings; two sons, Larry & Rita Schatte of Giddings and Monroe Jr. & Susan Schatte of Giddings; four daughters, Florene “Jeannie” & Martin Werchan of Giddings, Lynette Schatte of Giddings, Rachel & Russell Mertink of Giddings and Darlene Schatte of Giddings; ten grandchildren, Rebecca Werchan of Giddings, Dustin Schatte of Giddings, Amy Schatte of Azle, Meghan Schatte of Giddings, Kari & Conner Stewart of Giddings, Ashley Schatte of Corpus Christi, Erich Schatte of Giddings and Cody, Clay & Cole Mertink of Giddings; four great grandchildren, Marissa Ruiz of Giddings, Kamrie Stewart of Giddings, Kenedy Wheelis of Giddings and Baby Stewart to be born in June; sister, Wanda Schatte Shannon of Dallas; two sisters-in-law, Viola Schatte of Granbury and Mildred & Allen Perry of Giddings; two brothersin law, Roy & Millie Noack of Houston and Edwin Unger Jr. of Winchester as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Schatte family recommends making memorial contributions to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Restoration Fund, the St. Paul Lutheran School or to the Lutheran Hour.

Funeral services for Monroe Schatte Sr., 87 of Giddings, were held on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The Schatte family was present for visitation Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
