Giddings Police Report

May 17, 2010

At approximately 8 a.m., Officer Adam Shepard was dispatched to the 1800 block of FM 448 for a theft, which was Sunbelt Concrete. Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant and advised the officer of the items that were taken. This case is pending investigation.

May 18, 2010

Detective Landis Lehmann received a phone call from Southwest Kay Program, Inc., that a number of fraudulent checks had been passed on their account. The checks included one in Giddings for $768.34. An investigation is ongoing.

May 19, 2010

At approximately 12:07 a.m., Giddings Police Officers were dispatched to 497 South Polk Street, apartment 19, in reference to a disturbance in progress. Michael Moore kicked in the front door of his wife, Shannon Taylor’s apartment. Mrs. Taylor did not wish to press charges. Mr. Moore voluntarily left the residence.

May 19, 2010

At approximately 9:08 a.m., the Giddings Police Department was advised of a wanted person at the DPS (DL) office. Sgt. Farah Ramsey and Officer Nicholas Bridgefarmer identified the subject as Garland Crawford. It was confirmed that he had an active warrant out of Milam County. Crawford was placed under arrest and transported to the LCSO, where he was secured in jail.

At approximately 12:20 p.m., the Giddings Police Department received property that was found at the B&W Food Market. The owner of the property is known and will be notified.

At approximately 11:06 p.m., Officer Lorenzo Hernandez and Sgt. Anthony Rameriez were dispatched to 448 Supply located at 1482 FM 448 in reference to a vehicle that had driven off into a ditch and a Hispanic male subject wandering around the area. Upon arrival, the officers observed a vehicle with the front end in a ditch and the back end completely off the ground. As they exited the patrol unit, they observed a Hispanic male subject walking along side the south end of the building (448 Supply). Upon coming into contact with the subject, he admitted to being the driver of the vehicle and stated that it had malfunctioned and he lost control, driving into the ditch. The subject had red bloodshot, glassy eyes and had difficulty maintaining balance while standing upright in place. The subject was arrested for Public Intoxication Class C. Misdemeanor because he was a danger to himself and others if released. The subject was taken to Lee County Jail for booking. The vehicle was removed and impounded. No injuries sustained to any persons or the driver of the vehicle. No further information.

May 20, 2010

At approximately 11:00 a.m., Giddings Police Department received a report of Criminal Mischief. The damage occurred at an abandoned property around the 4200 block of East Austin. No suspects at this time.

May 20, 2010

At approximately 11:45 p.m., Officer Lorenzo Hernandez and Sgt. Anthony Ramirez conducted a traffic stop on a Green Honda Civic for a defective right headlamp not illuminated, which is required at night. They stopped the vehicle at the 2000 block East Austin St. Driver Neil Going was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana under two ounces. Going was transported to the Lee County Sherriff’s Department Jail for process. Tillery’s Wrecker towed and stored the vehicle.

May 21, 2010

Detective Landis Lehmann was dispatched to Brookshire Bros. at 513 E. Austin, for the report of a theft. The manager, Tim Pitts, informed the officer that yesterday at approximately 4:24 p.m., an unknown B/M had made change at the customer service window and short changed the checker. An investigation is ongoing.

May 22, 2010

Detective Landis Lehmann, Unit 305, was dispatched to Immanuel Lutheran School for the report of Criminal Mischief. Rocks had been thrown at the front door and had broken the glass. An investigation is ongoing.

At approximately 11:38 a.m., Officer Adam Shepard received a call from dispatch in reference to an assault that occurred at 615 E. Austin Street. He arrived on scene at Golden Chick and met with complainant who stated that she was assaulted by a customer who was a black female driving a black Dodge charger. This case is pending investigation.

May 22, 2010

At approximately 10:59 p.m., Officer Cummings was on patrol in the 1700 block of East Austin traveling westbound. A green Chevy pickup that was also traveling westbound on East Austin drove onto the improved shoulder and returned into the outside lane of traffic multiple times. The vehicle continued to travel westbound onto West Austin leaving the lane of traffic and returning back into the lane of traffic. A traffic stop was initiated at the 2200 block of West Austin. The driver, identified as Phillip Lee Rigdon of La Grange, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

May 22, 2010

At approximately 11:31 p.m., Officer Lacey Carvin, was dispatched to 1780 E. Hempstead in reference to a disturbance in progress. The called advised that

subject identified as “Lil Rick”, know to the officer as Richard Mathis, was yelling and threatening other persons at the location. Deputy Derek Easley arrived on scene first and had to subdue Mathis using force. Upon the officer’s arrival, Mathis was taken into custody. After conducting an investigation, it was determined that Mathis had threatened bodily harm to several subjects at the scene. Mathis was ultimately placed under arrest for terroristic threats and transported to the Lee County Jail without further incident.

May 23, 2010

At approximately 5:11 a.m., Giddings Police Officers responded to 713 East Calvert Street. Roberto Franco reported that someone stole $40 from him while attending a party. Roberto Franco had a license plate number and a description of the suspect car. A search was conducted for the vehicle, but it was not located. On Sunday, May 23, at approximately 9:17 p.m., Franco was contacted by telephone and gave more leads in the investigation. The vehicle bearing Texas license plates JGR445, which was the suspect’s vehicle, was parked at a residence at 680 San Marcos Street. Giddings Police Officer spoke with George Ojeda concerning the incident from the night prior.

May 23, 2010

At approximately 9:03 p.m., Officer Lacey Carvin was dispatched to MJ’s Washeteria in reference to a theft. The reporting person advised that two Hispanic males had entered the store at approximately 1:43 p.m. and had completed a purchase in which they short changed the cashier. The incident was captured on video surveillance and is under investigation.
