Lee County Courthouse Repair Update
Most of the regular meeting of the Lee County Commissioners’ Court held on Monday, May 24, 2010, was devoted to a review of the Schematic Design Package for the County Courthouse repair work needed. This package was prepared and presented by Wiss, Janey, Elstner Associates, Inc. After incorporating the Commissioners’ comments and concerns, the package will then be submitted to the Texas Historical Commission for their approval.
If all goes as planned, bids will then be let by the Court and the repair work should then begin at the end of November and will last approximately four months.
The primary focus of this phase of the repair work will be on correcting the water drainage on the entire Courthouse block. As envisioned, a series of trenches will be built to drain water away from the building, then completely reworking and waterproofing the sub-structure of the building. Repairs will also include strengthening and tying together the foundation of the building. Only after these are successfully completed can the repairs of cracks in both the walls and upper level floors be done properly.
After some extensive discussion concerning safety and appearance, the Court approved the plans with their comments included.
