U11 Lee County Angels Make Semi-finals in Western District
The U11 Lee County Angels soccer team advanced to the Western District Tournament held on May 1-2 at Williamson County Regional Park in Cedar Park. The Angels played their first game on Saturday against the AC Wildcats from San Antonio and won 3-0.
Scoring was provided by Courtney Strain, Janay Wilson, and Jasmine Luna. Their second game was against Lonestars 99G Bronze A from Austin in which they tied 0-0.
The Angels won the third game against AH Fire 99 Black from Corpus Christi with a score of 2-1. Scoring both goals was Courtney Strain.
The Angels advanced to the semi-finals and played again on Sunday against Hill Country Orange Crush from Kerrville in which they tied 1-1. This resulted in two overtime halves in which no team scored, which then led to penalty kicks and the Angels lost 3-2. Scoring the penalty kicks were Jasmine Luna and Janay Wilson.
The Angels played extremely well throughout the entire tournament. The state championship was later held on May 8-9 in San Antonio in which teams from the Eastern and Western Districts participated and the U11 girls state cup champion was Hill Country Orange Crush from the Western District.
