Methodist Church Sanctuary Renovation
The sanctuary of Lexington United Methodist Church is being renovated and will be under construction for the next few weeks. Worship services will be held in the adjacent fellowship hall until the completion in June.
The LUMC sanctuary building was built in the 1920’s after the consolidation of three Methodist churches in the area: Early Chapel in String Prairie, the German Methodist Church in Old Town, and Lexington Methodist Church. The sanctuary interior was last renovated in 1966.
The current renovation will upgrade sound, lighting, energy efficiency, carpeting, and upholstery. In addition, members are restoring the original look of the building with a return to drywall and restoration of the original ceiling.
Several LUMC members sold fried fish baskets at Homecoming. This is the first of many fundraisers that will be held to support the restoration project.
