Helping People in Our Town
The Lexington Ministerial Alliance takes up offerings at Fifth Sunday Sings, at the Homecoming Sing, and at the Community Thanksgiving Service. The money goes to help needy people in our town. A small part of the money sometimes goes to Ministerial Alliance expenses, but most of it is used to help the needy.
Most churches have funds for helping their own members, so this money goes to people who are not members of churches, or sometimes to help out church members when a particular church cannot afford to help as much as is needed. Any pastor in the Alliance can authorize financial aid being given to someone in need. This was a particularly cold winter and many people struggled to pay their electric bills. More people than normal have been losing their jobs and struggling to pay rent and other bills. We have had more people asking for help than at any time any of us can remember.
Normally the Lexington Ministerial Alliance fund has between one and two thousand dollars in it. Now it is down to less than $300.
The Treasurer of the Lexington Ministerial Alliance is the Rev. Dr. Greg Nichols of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. His mailing address is P.O Box 406, Lexington, TX 78947 and the church phone number is 773-4416.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to help others in this economy, please consider making a donation to the Lexington Ministerial Alliance. The money will be carefully used to help people in need. We have had so many people coming to us who tell us that they have never had to ask for help before, and we believe them. Times are tough right now. Checks can be made out to: Lexington Ministerial Alliance.
