Lady Eagles Soar over Jarrell 12-1
Lexington defeated Jarrell 12-1 Tuesday night. That win coupled with Academy’s 6-5 win ofer Rogers moved the Lady Eagles into a tie for first place with Rogers. Rogers defeated Salado Friday night 4-1 to finish district play at 10-2. Lexington had the night off. Lexington must defeat Lago Vista in Lexington Tuesday night to finish 10-2, maintain the tie, and force a first place playoff.
The Lady Eagles got off to a fast start, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. They played normal ball for two innings and then put a bunch of runs on the board in the fourth and fifth innings. Courtney Robertson was the winning pitcher allowing just two hits in four innings of work. Jessica Parish pitched the fifth inning, allowing a hit before striking out the next three batters.
Ashton Johnston walked to lead off the game for Lexington. Megan Scantlin followed with a single. An error by the third baseman on Robertson’s grounder allowed two runs to score. Walks to Shelby Tackett and Caity Holt and three wild pitches allowed three more runs to score.
Haley Jatzlau singled with one out in the third. She moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on Holt’s ground out. A passed ball on the catcher allowed Jatzlau to score, making the score 6-1.
Three more Lexington runs came in the fourth. Jessica Parish reached on an error. Parish adavanced on Tackett’s single. Holt hit a fly ball to left field that was dropped. Parish scored, with Tackett and Holt ending up on third and second. Jatzlau followed with a triple to drive in both runners.
In the top of the fifth Johnston slapped a single. Scantlin followed with another slap shot to left field. Parish blasted a double to plate both speedsters. Robertson followed with an RBI single to score Parish.
