Lady Eagles Flip Florence

Clinch Playoff Spot

Lexington clinched a spot in the state playoffs with a 5-1 win over Florence and Salado’s 9-6 win over Academy. Lexington scored three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, and a final run in the sixth.

The first three runs were courtesy of wild pitches and Florence errors. Ashton Johnston walked to start the third. Ashton moved to second on Megan Scantlin’s grounder to first. Jessica Parish walked, and Courtney Robertson reached on an error by the second baseman. During all this Johnston scored on a wild pitch for the first run. Shelby Tackett singled, the centerfielder ran right past the ball as Parish and Robertson scored.

In the fourth Marley Ross singled to start the inning. Caity Holt hit the ball and reached on a fielder’s choice as Ross was safe at second. Two wild pitches later Ross scored and Holt was at third.

In the seventh Ross got a lead off walk. Holt sacrificed her to third Mackenzie Brown sacrifice bunted as Ross scored for an RBI. Johnston singled to add to the inning but was forced at second on an grounder.

Robertson allowed the sole Florence run in the fifth on a double and a couple of wild pitches.
