TexasTornadoes Take Blue by Storm

The Texas Tornadoes Mounted Drill Team, a horse project group with the Northwest Lee County 4- H Club, held their second annual fundraiser at the Blue Volunteer Fire Department. The event on April 10th was enjoyed by all guests and brought the local community together for a good time, great food and prizes, and lots of laughter rewarded the supporters of this Lee County Equestrian unit. Leonard & Taronda Schulz and Amanda Bexley were winners of the grand prize.

All riders and horses with the Tornadoes are experienced horsemen and have participated in competition and rodeos across the state.

Coach Garry Turner states, “The drill team would like to thank all of our supporters. The funds raised will help with expenses to travel to the USEDA National Competition in Tyler, Texas on June 22-26 2010.” In 2010 Texas Tornadoes Youth will be participating in the District 4-H Horse Show in June at Katy, Texas.

Past 4-H members, Katie Turner and Jana Torn, are assisting in coaching this project group. Both Katie and Jana were members of the 2005 State 4-H Precision Riding Champions and of the 2009 National Color Guard Champions. Katie attended the 2009 Drill Masters and Drill Judges Clinic.

The Lee County Equestrian Drill Competition, hosted by the Texas Tornadoes, will be held in conjunction with the Lee County Fair on May 14, at 7:00 pm, and May 15, at 9:00 am. The event will be held in the Lee County Sheriff’s Posse arena in Giddings, Hwy 290 West. Everyone is invited to attend. They hope to see you there!
