James “Jimmy” Doss, Sr.
Jimmy Doss was born September 14, 1924 in the Gay Hill Community to Richard Antonio and Emma Elizabeth (Braun) Doss.
He was raised in the Gay Hill Community near Rockdale and then moved to Rockdale in 1988. He was a farmer and rancher and had also worked as a river pump operator.
On January 12, 1946, he and Jeffy Brown were married in Cameron at the Courthouse. They raised two children.
Jimmy was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale, enjoyed playing dominoes, fishing, gardening, being with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. He loved to “ride in the country.”
Jimmy passed away Tuesday morning, April 6, 2010 at his home in Rockdale, reaching the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents. Brothers, Emory, Dan and Nolan P. Doss. Sisters, Irene Wells and Ola Crump.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Jeffy Doss of Rockdale. Son, James Doss, Jr. and wife Denice of Rockdale. Daughter, Donna White and husband Steve of Lexington. Brother, Arnold “Blackie” Doss of Yorktown. Special friend and caregiver, Sandra Stutts of Rockdale. Five grandchildren, Scott Doss and wife Gena, Derek Doss, Ashli Doss, Jim Parker and wife Laurie, Jeanie Willard and husband Dennis. Seven great grandchildren, Rhett Doss, Reef Doss, Roxli Doss, Kassi Willard, Logan Willard, Megan Parker, Brittany Ison.
Services were Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Rick Hertless officiating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.
Serving as pallbearers were Brian Davenport, Greg Brinkley, Ricky Doss, Scott Doss, Derek Doss, Jim Parker.
Honorary pallbearers; Dennis Willard, Logan Willard, Rhett Doss.
