Armed Robber Captured

Two auto parts stores in Giddings, Auto Zone and O’Reilly’s, were robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday, April 6. Shortly after 7 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Auto Zone located at 2030 E. Austin Street in Giddings. The caller reported that they had been the victim of an armed robbery.

Lee County Sheriff’s Captain Gonzales, Deputy Robertson, Deputy Durrenberger, Deputy Easley and Deputy Ray all responded and attempted to locate the suspect.

The deputies assisted the Giddings Police Department in the pursuit of the vehicle driven by the suspect. He led the officers in a chase traveling over 100 m.p.h. on Hwy. 290 and was finally apprehended east of Elgin.

The subject, Luke Myers, age 31, was on parole and had committed several other similar armed robberies in the Houston area. He is currently being held in the Lee County Law Enforcement Center.
