Lady Eagles Snuff Queens

by Mike Organ

Lexington stopped the Academy Lady Bees 2-0 Tuesday night to move out of a three-way tie for second place. Lexington got their first run in the bottom of fifth inning and the second in the sixth.

The first run was earned. Caity Holt led off with a single. Veronica Richardson came in as a pinch runner. Mackenzie Brown laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to second. Ashton Johnston hit a slow roller to third, allowing Richardson to move to third on the throw to first. Megan Scantlin delivered the game winning run with a single through the hole on the left side of the infield.

The second run in the sixth was unearned. Shelby Tackett struck out but the catcher missed the ball. In going to second the catcher threw wildly and the centerfielder missed the ball backing up the play allowing Tackett to score an insurance run.

Courtney Robertson pitched a masterful game according to Coach Ryan Starnes. “That is the best game she has pitched this year and it was just when we needed it,” said Starnes.

The Lady Eagles are now 5-2 in district play and tied with Salado for second place.
