Eagles Fall to Academy

by Mike Organ

Lexington waited too long to mount a rally after falling behind 6-0. The Eagles scored four in the fifth inning to close to 6-4 but then allowed Academy three more runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Eagles equal answer of three runs in the bottom of the sixth made the score 9-7. 9-7 was the final score as neither team posted a run or threat in the seventh inning.

Lexington’s four runs in the fifth came with two out. Josh O’Conner doubled, Brandon Meyer was hit by a pitch, Kaelan Blok doubled home two runs, Casey Iselt walked, and Jacob Carr doubled home two more runs, just missing a homer.

The three runs in the sixth came on a lead off bunt single by Dylan Iselt. Chace Sherrill followed with a RBI triple to right center. Twin Chance Sherrill ended up on third after his short pop fly to shallow right bounced off the glove of the retreating second baseman for another RBI. Chance then scored on a wild pitch.

Academy’s offense was centered around the home run as the Bees stung Lexington pitching for three long flies over the fence.
