Lone Finalist Announced for LISD Superintendent
Lexington I.S.D.’s Board of Trustees announced a lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools last week, following their latest board meeting held on Wednesday, March 31. Frances Marilyn McArthur, Ph.D. was selected out of approximately 50 candidates who applied. LISD has been searching for a new superintendent since Dr. Chuck Holt announced his retirement in February of this year. Dr. Holt, who has been with the District since 2005, is leaving LISD to teach in the Masters and Doctoral Programs at Texas A & MCommerce. At the will of the LISD Board of Trustees, he will stay on with the district through June to help make the transition of bringing in a new superintendent as seamless as possible.
While Dr. McArthur has accepted the position, Dr. Holt said, “The state of Texas requires a 21-day waiting period once a District has selected a lone finalist for Superintendent. This allows for public review of the selection since Superintendent of Schools is considered a high profile position.”
Dr. McArthur is currently the Deputy Superintendent of Instructional Services in the Bryan Independent School District in Bryan. She formerly served as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Executive Director of Special Programs and was Executive Principal for two schools in Bryan. She also served as principal of Milam Elementary School in Bryan ISD.
Prior to moving to Bryan she had been a Bilingual Teacher, Gifted and Talented teacher, and Project Director for Title VII with the Houston ISD. She began her education career with the Lytle Independent School District as a fifth grade teacher.
Dr. McArthur received her Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education at Texas A & M and her Master of Education in Bilingual Education from Houston Baptist University. She received her Doctor of Philosophy in Education from Texas A & M University.
Dr. Holt said, “She is an education leader with a comprehensive view of education, has a proven success record in increasing achievement levels of all students, and has a firm commitment to the full development of all children.”
