Vikings Sink Eagles on Homer
Lago Vista’s James Haines hit two home runs, the first tied the game and the second was a walk off to win the game. Lexington had been in the lead until Haines heroics.
Lexington struck in the top of the first inning. Chance Sherrill singled, Josh O’Conner singled, and Tyler Moerbe blasted a threerun homer for the Eagles. Casey Iselt blasted a round-tripper in the second for the Eagles to widen the lead to 4-0. Lago Vista answered with a run in the second and three in the third to tie the game.
Lexington retook the lead in the fourth with a run on a Chace Sherrill single, an error by LV and O’Conner’s RBI ground out to shortstop. Lago not only matched Lexington but added one more run to take their first lead of the game at 6-5.
Spencer Bownds led off the sixth with a single. Moved to third on Casey Iselt’s single and scored on a throwing error by the LV first baseman. Casey was thrown out on a grounder back to the pitcher as Chance reached first base. Chace later scored the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice and an O’Conner single. Lexington led 6- 5 going into the bottom of the sixth.
Haines popped a fly ball up into the 20 MPH wind in the bandbox field at Lago that landed past the leftfield fence. Lexington did not threaten in the seventh, eighth or ninth innings. That laid the plot for Haines’ second long fly.
