Lee County Veterans Receive Additional Funding for Mental Health Services
On March 25, 2010, Governor Rick Perry announced the recipients of grant funds to expand and initiate mental health treatment services for veterans and their families.
Bluebonnet Trails Community MHMR Center, of which Lee County is a part, was one of two local mental health authority programs awarded funding to increase veterans’ access to trauma therapy, peer-topeer support services and provide family-to-family peer services. To best meet the needs in the eight counties served by Bluebonnet Trails, the Center strategically partnered with two regional systems in Texas resulting in two successful applications totaling $300,000.
Lexington Mayor Robert Willrich, Sr., representing Lee County on the Center Board of Trustees, remarks, “This is wonderful news. We received $70,000 earlier this year to initiate peer-to-peer support groups for veterans. These additional funds will allow us to reach out to returning veterans, support their families and let them know their community cares about them and honors the enormous sacrifices made by our military men and women. We are grateful for the Governor’s interest in this issue.”
