Lady Eagles Clean Florence
Jessica Parish gave Lexington a 2-1 third inning lead over Florence with her ninth home run of the season. From there the Lady Eagles score twice more in the fifth inning to salt away their third district win in five games.
Florence got on the scoreboard quickly in the first inning. The lead off hitter walked and came around to score on two ground outs and a wild pitch. Lexington answered in the bottom of the inning with Ashton Johnston. Johnston walked, went to second on Megan Scantlin’s slapper through the in- field, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild toss.
The score remained tied until the bottom of the third when Parish belted the one-out homer over the left field fence. Lexington took the lead and never gave it back.
The next two Lady Eagle runs came in the fifth inning when Johnston reached on a single, which turned into a somewhat triple as the catcher threw the ball into right field and Johnston cruised to third.
Scantlin again delivered with a hit as Johnston scored. Parish followed with a line-drive double off the left centerfield fence. (The ball was hit harder than her homer.) Scantlin scored giving Lexington its final 4-1 lead.
