Lexington Drops District Opener

by Mike Organ

Lexington fell to state ranked Rogers 9-0 in their 2010 district opener. Rogers banged out nine hits, got seven walks, and were aided by six Lexington fielding lapses.

Much like the girls’ game, Lexington spotted Rogers three runs in the top of the first. Rogers got three runs on only one hit and two Lexington errors. The hit was a big two-run triple and the second error allowed that runner to score.

Lexington’s lone hit of the night came in the bottom of the first. After Dylan Iselt had reached on an error, Chance Sherrill delivered a perfectly placed single to right field on a run and hit play. Iselt got to third on the play but was stranded there.

Lexington only threatened once after that. Dylan received a walk to lead off the third. He stole second and third but got to watch a strike out, a pop out, and a ground out from third.

Rogers Gregory Mendoza and Ryan Fares struck out 12 Lexington hitters and walked four.
