Eagles Win Consolation at Schulenburg Tourney
Lexington topped East Bernard 7-3 to win the Consolation Championship of the Stanley Krist Tourney held in Schulenburg and Flatonia. Lexington got to the trophy game by losing to Sacred Heart on Thursday, beating Tidehaven and Houston Christian Youth Association .
Game 1- According to Coach Craig Finley, “We played our worst game of the year in losing to Sacred Heart 7-4.”
Tyler Moerbe had an extra base hit and an RBI in the game. Chace Sherrill scored on Moerbe’s double to open the scoring for Lexington. Two runs in the third came as Dylan Iselt doubled to score Casey Iselt. Josh O’Conner hit a sac fly to plate the other run. Dylan also scored the final Eagle run on Chance Sherrill’s single. The Eagles allowed SH six runs in the fourth inning on seven hits and two walks.
Game 2- Lexington blasted Tidehaven 9-4. Tidehaven scored in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Lexington answered with four in the fourth and five in the fifth. O’Conner had two doubles and five RBI. Chance Sherrill scored two runs, got two hits, and knocked in two runs. Casey Iselt had two singles and two runs scored. Spencer Bownds tossed the first four innings and Kogan Garrett pitched the last two for the win.
Game 3- Lexington waited until the fifth inning to score. In the fifth, four runs crossed the plate to erase a 1-0 HCYA lead. Moerbe started the rally with a single, Chace singled, Jacob Carr singled to plate a run, and Spencer Bownds doubled home two. Casey Iselt singled to get the final run home. Kaelan Blok pitched the first two innings and Chase Hibbler came in for the final two innings and the win.
Game 4- Lexington again waited until late in the game to surge to victory. With East Bernard leading 3-2, Lexington put five runs across in the sixth inning with two out to snare the win. In the pivotal sixth, Bownds singled to start the rally, Casey singled, Dylan singled to plate two runs, Chase Hibbler singled home a run, O’Connor doubled home a run and scored on a throwing error. The Iselts pitched the game with Casey getting the win.
