Students Garner Top Awards

Blinn College theater arts students won multiple awards at the 2010 Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association Play Festival Feb. 24-27 on the Brenham campus. Blinn’s presentation of “The Good Woman of Setzuan” won the Superior Production Award. Brandon Flippo won the Respondents’ Choice Acting Award-Excellent. Respondents’ Choice Acting Award-Superior went to Carolyn Lacy, Ashley Watson and Andy Burian.

Directors Choice Technical Awards in the Superior category went to Maddie Haas and Bryan Pope winning for scene design; Zina Evans for make-up design; Sandy Kluchin and Andy Burian for sound design; Blake Kenyon for lighting design; Koryn Weiman for props design; Carolyn Lacy and Rebecca Flippo for mask design. Evans and Brandon Flippo also won for production assistance.

Wieman’s prop design also won the Respondents Choice Technical Award-Excellent. For mask design, Lacy and Rebecca Flippo won the Respondents’ Choice Technical Award-Superior as did Haas and Pope for scenic design; Brandon Flippo for technical direction; Kenyon for lighting design, and Sandy Kluchin for sound design.

Haas and Pope also won the Greg Schneider Technical Excellence Award for scenic design. The special award is granted to students whose technical design achieves an above-Superior rating.

Also participating in the TCCSTA Play Festival were Weatherford College, Howard College, Houston Community College Southwest, Lone Star College- Tomball and Panola College.
