Yoe Tough Foe

by Mike Organ

Cameron topped Lexington 14- 9 in the season opener for both teams. Cameron came out of the dugout swinging scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning on a home run. Cameron added two more in the second for a 5-0 lead. Lexington got on the board in the top of the third inning when Ashton Johnston scored on Jessica Parish’s RBI ground out. Cameron countered with two more in the bottom of the third and five in the fourth.

Cameron felt a little cocky being ahead 12-1 after four innings. The Lady Eagles were just starting after a couple of turns at bat. Lexington put up a five spot in the top of the fifth. Mackenzie Brown walked, Johnston singled, and Parish blasted one over the fence. Courtney Robertson followed with a double, Haley Jatzlau doubled her home, and Shelby Tackett singled home Jatzlau. The Lady Eagle confidence was up as they pulled to within three runs at 12-9 after five and a half innings. Cameron rallied for two more and brought back the starting pitcher to close out Lexington in the top of the seventh.

Coach Ryan Starnes was not pleased with the loss, but was happy the way the Lady Eagles batted against a top-notch pitcher like Cameron’s Fincher.

The Lady Eagle JV also lost to Cameron on a triple in the bottom of the seventh inning. Caity Holt and Jorden Kelley had singles. Kaylie Clare-Sherman and Kassie Prew had doubles in the contest.
