The Big O’s Sports Thoughts

by Mike Organ

Ryan Starnes is as calm a person with the Lady Eagles as you will ever see. Friday night when the girls made several mental mistakes on the field, he did not scream and holler at the girls on the field. He waited until the inning was over and then talked calmly to the culprit. He explained to each player what was wrong and how to correct the mistake. He did not embarrass the player in front of their peers or family-very well handled.

The LaGrange track meet is held very early in the track season. It is usually cool and some runners get muscle pulls like Elydia Farwell did last season. You will notice the two-time state champion is not running for Lexington this year. She is running for a Houston suburb

school after moving there. Athletes like Elydia make some people good track coaches.

The Eagle basketball team has accomplished much in just two seasons under Coach Charlie Tucker. A change in districts and a change in philosophy have helped the Eagles succeed.

The Texas basketball team has fallen from grace after being ranked #1 in the nation for almost one week. They will probably not even get a first round bye in the Big XII tourney. The writers in Austin are beginning to question the coaching from Rick Barnes. Will it hurt the UT recruiting if all these ‘future stars’ come to Austin and the team fails? The high school studs will stay away from UT and go to somewhere their team will succeed.
