Eagles Take Academy 44-42
The Lexington Eagles and the Academy Bumblebees battled toe to toe all night long. Neither team got a lead of more than five points at any time during the battle for second place in District 25-AA. With Lexington winning the teams tied for second. Coaches Tucker of Lexington and Glendenning of Academy had agreed prior to the game which teams they would play in Bi-District action.
Lexington will play Hempstead, a team they beat in the Cameron Tourney during the Christmas break. Academy will take on Schulenburg. The games will be played as a double header at Bryan High School with the Lexington-Hempstead game starting at 6:00 pm. Academy-Schulenburg will start at approximately 8:00 pm.
Both teams played tenacious defense, not giving up many easy baskets. This game was just like the first game the two teams played. The home team fell behind early and battled back to tie the game at the end of three quarters. The entire fourth quarter was nip and tuck until Jason Washington made a two point shot and converted a free throw because of a foul on the shot. According to coaches, that was the turning point late in the game. Lexington took the lead on the play and held on tightly to the lead until the final buzzer, which came slowly to the Eagles, but fast for the Bees.
The Eagle JV closed the season with a 52-37 loss to the Bee JV. The loss snapped a three game winning steak for the young Eagles. Rhodes and Havard led the JV in scoring with 13 and 12 points respectively.
