Eagles Host Baseball Tourney

by Mike Organ

The Lexington Eagles will play the Holland Hornets in the first game of the annual Lexington Baseball Tourney at 11:00 am Thursday. The second game will see Nixon-Smiley play Trinity at 1:30. The games will have a twohour time limit with 30 minutes to refurbish the field for the next game. The 4:00 pm game will be the losers of the Lexington/Holland and Nixon-Smiley/Trinity game. The 6:30 game will feature the winners of the first two games.

Friday’s time frame is the same as Thursday’s. Game one will be the Bryan JV vs. Rosebud-Lott and game two will be Schulenburg vs. Navasota. Game three will be the losers and game four will be the winners of the first two games.

According to Coach Craig Finley, the Eagles have looked good in the first scrimmages but did not perform as well Friday at Smithville. The probable participants for Thursday’s game will be: Chace Sherrill, catcher, Casey Iselt, Spencer Bounds, and Josh O’Conner on the mound, Bounds at first when not pitching, Jacob Carr at second, Tyler Moerbe and O’Connor at short, Coby Berger at third, Chance Sherrill in leftfield, Dylan Iselt in centerfield, Patrick Rogers or Moerbe in right field. Coach Finley also has seven probable JV players on the varsity for the tourney to get them some baseball experience.

The Eagles are missing lefthander Kaelan Blok in the pitching rotation. Blok is still performing for the basketball Eagles in the playoffs. He could be missing for two or three weeks.

Saturday’s schedule will start with the seventh place game, then the consolation game, third place game, and the championship game will wrap up the tourney.
