Sports Thoughts….

by Mike Organ

The Eagles have hit a down time in basketball. They have qualified for the playoffs and will play either Hempstead or Schulenburg in the first round of the playoffs. Get ready to travel to the playoff site and root the Birds to victory.

The Saints victory was great for the franchise that had never been to the Super Bowl prior to this season. The way people are carrying on, you would think they were ‘America’s Team’.

The weather is making the beginning of baseball and softball season a big question mark. Hopefully the teams will be able to play some games before they have to start district action. The softball team starts district action on March 2nd. That is less than two weeks from now. February is almost gone, and not much has happened.

Coach Muhl is really excited about the improvement in the off season program. They have added things like pull ups and different skills. The changes are designed to improve hand strength, quickness, and lower arm strength. We will have a full article on the program that is going to help both boys and girls athletics.

Coach Fitzhenry made a lot of people in Giddings happy with his decision to stay put. I am afraid turning down Pasadena may affect his ability to get top notch interviews and jobs in the future. He won’t be any less coach, but the entire story got state-wide on the message boards and local sports news. You know what ‘they’ say about getting scorned more than once.
