Intermediate CDM Team Wins Championship at San Antonio

Lee County 4-H Consumer Decision Making team members brought home a Champion banner from the San Antonio Livestock Show. Lee County was represented by ten 4-H’ers on three teams. Team members on the Champion Intermediate Team included: Maegan Sanders, Whitney Whitsel, Kelly Shows and Alyssa Dussetschleger. This was the first time for these members to compete together as a team.

As well as competing as a team, Maegan earned High Point Individual and Whitney placed 5th, High Point Individual.

“This was the first time Lee County had a winning Consumer Decision Making team at San Antonio.” said County Extension Agent, Tony Poncik.

Other teams members competing were: Intermediate Team, Tanner Whitsel, Christopher Schulz and Mason Jatzlau; Senior Team, Trent Jatzlau, Malissa Sanders and Mary Beth Ross.

The Consumer Decision Making Contest is a two-part team event. The first part of competition is to place or rank four options in a consumer scenario. Each scenario and its four options are a class, and the contest includes several classes.

The second part of the contest is giving oral reasons for the decisions made. Individual contestants explain why they decided on a certain placing. The ability to give oral reasons comes from experience in making comparisons and decisions, and from a thorough knowledge of the product information for the class.
