Happy Birthday, Mr. Centurian!

Lexington Resident Bernard Claude Stedmen to Mark His 100th Year

Lexington resident, Bernard Claude Stedmen, will mark his 100th Birthday on February 28, 2010. Approximately 30 members of his family plus friends from California, Oklahoma, and Texas will be in attendance at a birthday bash in Giddings to celebrate the occasion.

Mr. Stedman was born in Yucaipa, California on February 28, 1910 and resided for a short while in Arizona before moving to Lexington, Texas in June of 2005. He was employed by Pacific Gas and Electric of California when he retired.

He remains quite active, spending a lot of time in his shop either building something or repairing something that has broken. Just this past year he built and hung sliding garage doors on his shop and mixed and poured concrete for the floor. He also spends a lot of time helping his daughter, Marjorie Copeland, keeping their acre lot clean and manicured. Although he is still licensed and able to drive he does less of it these days. He likes to relax on the deck or patio with a cup of coffee in the morning or a cold beer in the afternoon when it’s hot.

Being 100 years of age might not suit some but his last check up found him to be in excellent health. He says, “I’m done with the first 100 years and now starting on the next 100.”

His secret to long life? Just being a good “ol’ country boy”.
