Lady Eagles Cage Jarrell 40-33

by Mike Organ

Nicole Koch played the game of her life and the Lady Eagles closed out the 2009-2010 season on a two-game win streak with a 40-33 win over the formerly first place Jarrell Lady Cougars. Koch scored only five crucial points but played inspired defense holding the Jarrell point guard to just 10- points and two assists. The rest of the Lady Eagles played inspired defense off Koch’s effort. Blocking out, clogging passing lanes, and constant half-court pressure defense proved to be Jarrell’s downfall.

Lexington’s defense caused Jarrell to have a poor shooting night. A hand in the face on a shot caused Jarrell to be ice-cold from the field. The Lady Cougars actually shot better from outside the three-point arc than they did under the basket for the game.

Lexington led the entire game, taking an 8-2 lead in the first quarter and then made it stand up the rest of the game. Lexington was ahead 15-11 at halftime and 30-21 at the end of three periods. Jarrell rallied to within one point, 33-32, late in the game and it looked as though the Lady Eagles would lose another close game after giving it their all though out the game. This time the Lady Eagles responded with a late game rally to seal the much deserved victory.

Deja Griffin led Lexington in scoring with 13 points. Koch tossed in a three pointer and a deuce in addition to her defense. Angel Parks pulled down double digit rebounds and Emily Bell was a presence in the paint.
