Giddings Police Report

January 31, 2010

At 7:32 p.m. Officer Shepard was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. Upon arrival he met with the manager who had the suspect later identified as Celestina S. Gonzalez of Paige detained in the back for identification purposes. Celestina was cited for theft and released with a Criminal Trespass Notification at the scene.

February 1, 2010

At 8:51 a.m., Detective Cpl. Carvin met with Mark Dube at the Police Department in reference to criminal mischief to his vehicle, a 2006 red Dodge Ram 2500. Mark advised that he had parked his vehicle behind RBS Campers, located at 759 W. Austin on January 14, 2010. He picked up the vehicle on January 23 and noticed damage to the front driver’s side window, window frame, and mirror. After examining the damage to the vehicle, Det. Carvin identified the damage as pry marks to the window frame and mirror and noticed the glass had been cracked during the attempted burglary of the vehicle. Photographs were taken of the damage and Mark was provided with a case number for attempted burglary of a vehicle. Video surveillance is unavailable in the area where Mark had parked his vehicle and Det. Carvin was unable to process the vehicle for latent prints because the integrity of any possible latent evidence had been compromised. The case will be listed as inactive due to a lack of leads and evidence.

February 1, 2010

At 2:58 p.m., Det. Cpl. Carvin and Officer Griffin responded to 1844 S. Leon in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, Det. Carvin met with a witness and the victim. She observed visible minor injuries to the victim. Randall Sheehan was ultimately arrested for assault causing bodily injury family member (Class A Misd). Case cleared.

February 2, 2010

At 6:33 p.m., Officer Spencer was dispatched to 408 Biscayne in reference to a prior verbal disturbance. Johnny Cooper reported that he was threatened by another subject named as Ronzale Young. Ronzale was issued a citation for Assault by Threat.

February 2, 2010

At 7:29 p.m., Officer Ramirez was at the Giddings High School located at 2335 N. Main St. conducting security for the high school basketball games. There were two juvenile females who began fighting in the stands inside the gym. The two females were escorted out of the gym and issued citations for Disorderly Conduct Fighting. The females were transported to the Giddings Police Department to wait for their guardians to pick them up.

February 4, 2010

At 9:15 p.m., Officers Strong and Shepard and Sgt. Ray responded to 817 S. Polk St. in reference to a welfare concern, possible disturbance. Upon arrival, a female subject reported that an assault had occurred but she was intoxicated. No evidence of an assault was found and no injuries were reported.

February 5, 2010

At 9:10 p.m., Officer Spencer made a traffic stop in the 200 blk of S. Main. The vehicle was stopped for a speeding violation. The driver was identified as Theresa Hayes. After conducting a driver’s license check, dispatch reported that Hayes had an outstanding Theft by Check warrant from Lee County. The warrant was confirmed and Hayes was transported to the Lee County Jail.

February 6, 2010

At 7:21 a.m., Det. Cpl. Carvin was dispatched to 651 N. Polk in reference to an attempted burglary of a residence. Upon arrival she met with the complainant, John Schlohan, who advised that two of the window screens on his residence had been tampered with. Case unfounded.

At 8:04 a.m., Det. Cpl. Carvin was dispatched to Allstar Convenience Store #3 located at 3250 E Austin in reference to two counterfeit bills bearing the same serial numbers that were passed at the store. Upon arrival she met with Theresia Matura, the store clerk, who advised that two white males in a black “beat-up” work truck pulled up to pump #7 and started pumping fuel. The clerk advised that the thinner white male entered the store and placed two $10 bills on the counter and advised the clerk that the money was for the fuel. He then went to the bathroom. The second, heavier white male, then entered the store and handed the clerk a penny for going over the $20 by one cent. Both left the store traveling eastbound. The receipt for fuel was time stamped at 7:37 a.m. The clerk advised that she then realized that the texture of the bills felt slick, as compared to a rougher texture for a legitimate bill. She inspected the bills and discovered that both bills displayed the same serial number. The clerk advised that she had contacted her manager who advised that she would provide the video of the incident on Monday (2/8). Case active and under investigation.

February 6, 2010

At approximately 12:30 p.m., Officer Griffin initiated a traffic stop in the 600 blk of N. Chambers. The driver, Matthew Carl Herzog of Giddings was subsequently placed under arrest for Possession of Marijuana and taken to the Lee County Sheriff ’s Office and released.

At 4:15 p.m., DPS Trooper Early requested the assistance of the Giddings Police Department drug detection dog. The request was for a traffic stop that was made on SH 21 W, close to Dime Box. Officer Spencer responded and “Nellie” was used to conduct a free air sniff for the exterior of the vehicle. Nellie gave a positive alert on the vehicle. Trooper Early searched the vehicle which revealed a little over an ounce of marijuana in the glove box. Trooper Early placed the driver under arrest for Possession of Marijuana.

February 6, 2010

At 8:09 p.m., Officer Spencer and Sgt Ramsey were dispatched to the area of 400 Rolling Oaks Apt. 601. Dispatch reported that a subject was outside the apartment with a gun, trying to gain entry to kill the occupant. Officers arrived and observed the subject enter and then step out of his pickup. The subject was identified as Bruce Martin Allen, 39. Investigation revealed that Allen had retrieved a pistol from his vehicle after becoming upset with the occupants. Allen then pointed the pistol at the residents when they were outside, telling them that he was going to kill them. Allen was arrested for Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon. He was transported to the Lee County Jail without further incident.

At 10:55 p.m., Officer Spencer observed two subjects consuming from two open containers of alcoholic beverages in the business district (violation of City Ordinance) 200 W. Railroad. John Walker (30) was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech, and strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Walker would have been a danger to himself or others if released. Walker was issued a warning citation for the violation of City Ordinance and placed under arrest for public intoxication. Stacie Wormley was the other subject and she was issued a warning citation for the violation of City Ordinance.

February 7, 2010

At 7:37 a.m., Det. Cpl. Carvin was dispatched to Orsag’s Inc. located 201 W. Austin in reference to two shattered windows on the south side of the store. Upon arrival, Officer Griffin and Det. Carvin conducted a protective sweep for any possible suspects inside the store. No one was located inside the store, nothing appeared disturbed, and it appeared that no entry was made into the building. A key holder was notified and requested to meet with officers on scene. This case is active and under investigation.

February 7, 2010

At approximately 11:45 a.m., Det. Cpl. Carvin met with Laurie Alva at the Police Department in reference to a theft. Laurie advised that her cell phone had been stolen from her residence sometime early that morning. Case active and under investigation.

At 5:37 p.m., Sgt. Ramsey met with Kayla Pampell at the GPD in reference to theft. Kayla reported that her MP3 player had been stolen. Case is under investigation.

February 7, 2010

At 9:18 p.m., Sgt. Ramsey conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at 100 N. Main for speeding. The driver, identified as Anthony Brisco gave consent for her to search his vehicle. Anthony and the passenger, identified as Coretta Scott were issued citations on scene for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and released.
