Lady Eagles Almost….
Lexington almost pulled off a win in hostile territory with a mighty effort against district leading Rogers. The game was tied at 27 with 4:58 to go and 33-all with 56 seconds left. Lexington had several opportunities to take the lead. A couple of missed shots could have put Lexington in the lead. Several times a trip to the free throw lane could have given Lexington the lead. The free throws just would not fall when needed. The effort continued even with the misses. Lexington would let Rogers get up two, three, and then come back. The score was tied at 33 with 56 seconds left in the game, but Lexington could not convert. Rogers sank a couple of free throws for the winning margin and even then, Lexington had a shot that just fell short to win the game.
Lexington started off slowly, falling behind 10-0 before putting a marker on the board. An Angel Parks free gave the Lady Eagles their first points. Mackenzie Brown dropped a trey later in the first period as Lexington bounced back to 10-4 at the first quarter buzzer.
The littlest Lady Eagle, Mackenzie Brown led the team in scoring with 11 points. She also tracked down six rebounds that hit the floor after some good blocking out by the Lexington post defenders. Angel Parks made some good plays inside and also rebounded well when not in foul trouble.
Lexington drops to 10-15 for the season and 2-8 in district action. The Lady Eagles are still having a breakout season after they won only five last season. All players except Nicole Koch will return next season as they continue to improve their performances.
Lexington has had several close calls. The Lady Eagles have lost seven district games by a total of 35 points. Seven losses by five points, on average. Each of those seven games could have gone either way. That is how close this group of Lady Eagles has been to a very successful season.
