Lady Eagle Softball

by Mike Organ

Lexington’s softballers hit the diamond last Friday to begin practice for the 2010 season. Coaches expect about 22 players to vie for playing time. The Lady Eagles will have a full JV and varsity schedule this season. Lexington opens the season as the defending district champion. Gone are the Knipstein twins and Ally Abshire.

The offense behind the leadership of Jessica Parish, Haley Jatzlau, Megan Scantlin, Shelby Tackett, Ashton Johnston, and Heather Mills will be formidable. If the Lady Eagles can develop a solid pitcher/catcher combination they could be headed to the state tourney. Parish is the best returning catcher in the district but is also the best returning pitcher Lexington has. Obviously she can not do both, therefore someone must step forth.
