Emma Florene Kraatz Fikes

June 23, 1917 - January 27, 2010

Emma Florene Kraatz Fikes was born June 23, 1917 in the Sharp Community to Ben and Bernice Elnora (Presley) Kraatz. She was one of thirteen children.

On October 9, 1937, she and Franklin Fikes were married in Cameron. To this union five children were born.

Emma was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale. For 31 years, she worked as an elevator operator with Southern National Bank Medical Arts Building in Houston. In 1983 she moved to Rockdale and had worked as a Wal-Mart greeter for 16 years.

Emma passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in the Manor Oaks Nursing Center in Rockdale, reaching the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband Franklin on August 8, 1987. Son, Franklin Leland Fikes. Three daughters, Flora Mae Roberts, Frances Davis and Faye Y. Seely. Four sisters, Betty Lou White, Florence Roessler, Thelma Woodley and Gertie Lee Svetlik. One brother, Ben Kraatz. Grandson, Douglas Roberts and a great grandson, Justin Dudenhoeffer.

Surviving; Her son, Floyd Fikes of Houston. Two brothers, Charles Kraatz of Houston and Gene Kraatz of California. Five sisters, Lorene Wicker of Rockdale, Doris Kerbow and Lucille McCrummins both of Commerce, Evelyn Taylor of Flower Mound and Mary Scott of Houston. 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held January 30, 2010 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Chapel and burial in the Sharp Cemetery with Rev. Jack Chelf officiating.

Serving as pallbearers, Scott Dudenhoeffer, Dana Talley, Martin Fikes, Daniel Roberts, Jeffrey Scott, Ronnie McCrummins.
