Blinn and Houston Symphonic Bands to Perform in Brenham
The Blinn College Symphonic Band and the Houston Symphonic Band will perform on Feb. 6 at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center on the Brenham campus. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and is free to the public.
The Blinn band will take the stage first with sophomore music major Steven Scott of Houston performing the Rondo Movement from the “Mozart Clarinet Concerto.” The band will also perform “Blue Towers” by Irving Fine along with selections from “The Merry Widow” by Franz Lear, “Lux Aurumque” by Eric Whitacre, Henry Fillmore’s famous march “His Honor,” and “Freckles Rag” featuring the percussion section. The Blinn College Symphonic Band is under the direction of Harry D. Blake.
The second half of the program will feature the Houston Symphonic Band under the direction of Fred Angerstein. The adult group will perform “March of the Conch Republic” by William Brusick, “Shenandoah” by Frank Ticheli, and the “Divine Comedy Symphony for Band” by Robert W. Smith.
