Middle School Eagles Work Hard in Lago Vista

by Mark Strain

The Lexington Middle School Boys basketball teams started the new year by moving their game up a day early to Wednesday January 6th and traveling to Lago Vista. 7B tipped off and played a close 4 periods only to lose in the last seconds by a score of 11-9.

8B, on the other hand, allowed their Lago Vista counterparts to run up 16 unanswered points into the third period before being able to answer with only a single basket.

The fourth period was more of the same for both teams and Lexington fell by a score of 22-4.

7A had high hopes to improve the 0-2 Lexington start but from the beginning, Lago Vista 7A outmanned and out-hustled Lexington and notched another win by a score of 22-10.

The last game of the night was 8A. Fourth game of the night, same start. Lago Vista put up a quick break and a tough defense to produce a lead of 19-4.

The second period is where Lexington began to shine. With a better defense and more aggressive offense, Lexington went on a 16-5 run and narrowed their opponent’s lead to 4 points by half time with a score of 24-20.

The third period showed more grit and determination by the young Eagles and finally a lead in the game. The third period ended Lexington up 32-30.

The fourth period was a classic back and fourth to the very end with the coaches on both sides using up timeouts and fouling on purpose to stop the clock and hope for missed free throws and turnovers.

The 8A Eagles went down to the wire, where eventually, Nate Holcomb, Cameron Janda and Eriq Mitchell all fouled out leaving only 4 players left on the court with less than 5 seconds in the game.

In the end Lexington came up short and Lago Vista swept the night with a final game score of 47-43.
