L.B. Blake

September 15, 1915 - January 8, 2010

L.B. Blake was born September 15, 1915 in Cameron, Texas to Robert Lee and Bessie (Fuller) Blake. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

L.B. lived in Milano since 1946. He had worked mowing highways for W.W. Wilson, a taxi driver for Lonnie Armstrong in Cameron, mechanic for Mahoca Motor Company in Cameron, truck driver for Gifford & Hill and retired from Milam County Maintenance as a truck driver.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Milano, life member of Rockdale VFW Post 6525, member of Milano Volunteer Fire Department and former member of Cameron Volunteer Fire Department.

On April 22, 1947 he and Nelma Morgan were married in Cameron. To this union five children were born.

L.B. passed away Friday morning, January 8, 2010 in the Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale, reaching the age of 94.

He was preceded in death by three daughters, Verlie Jo Blake, Louise Blakely and Debra Hartley. His parents. Brother, Ardell Blake. Sisters, Ora Lee Morgan and Ollie Johnson. A grandson and a great grandson.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nelma Blake of Milano. Son, L.B. “Shorty” Blake, Jr. and wife Deana of Milano. Daughter, Gloria Garrison of Harker Heights. 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on January 10, 2010 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Springer officiating. Burial followed in the Milano Cemetery in Milano.
