J. R. Whiteley, Jr.
Mr. J. R. Whiteley, Jr. was born on December 19, 1932 in Milam County, Texas. He was the son of Julius Ray Whiteley, Sr. and Mary Lee (Sparks) Whiteley.
J. R. was a member of the First Christian Church in Rockdale, a 1950 graduate of Rockdale High School and he served in the U. S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He enjoyed Golf, Singing and watching his grandchildren play sports.
He worked for Texas Utilities for 37 years. He moved with his job from Rockdale to Fairfield to Mt. Vernon. After he retired in 1992 He and Sue moved to Rockdale. They just moved back to Mt. Vernon to be closer to children and grandchildren.
He and Sarah Ellen (Sue) Crim were married October 31, 1950 in Rockdale, to this union three children were born.
J. R. passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at his home in Mt. Vernon. He reached the age of 77 years and 20 days.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius Ray Whiteley, Sr. and Mary Lee Whiteley; sister-inlaw, Janice Whiteley.
Surviving are; Wife, Sarah Ellen (Sue) Whiteley of Mt. Vernon; Daughters, Libby Kenjura & husband Richard of Chappell Hill, TX and Tina Magness & husband Brent of Corsicana; Son, Mike Whiteley & wife Kathy of Mt. Vernon. Grandchildren, Julie & Jason Alkire of NYC, NY; Bryan & Nicole Kenjura of Houston; Jason & Amanda Horton of Texarkana, TX; Audrey Whiteley of Austin; Jeremy Magness of Flagstaff, AZ; Shanna & Lance Cornell of Mt. Vernon; Allison Magness of Austin; Jessica Whiteley of Mt. Vernon; Megan Green, Colby Deal and Caleb Deal of Mt. Vernon. Two Great Grandchildren, Gracie Proctor and Averie Cornell both of Mt. Vernon. Brother, Jerry Whiteley & Wife Patti of Katy, TX
Services were January 11 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Springer & Rev. Earl Presley officiating. Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery.
Those serving as Pallbearers were Jason Alkire, Bryan Kenjura, Lance Cornell, Jason Horton, Jeremy Magness, Colby Deal and Caleb Deal.
