Contractor Falls to His Death
Lexington emergency personnel were dispatched to the Ron Brewer residence Monday afternoon, January 11, at approximately 5 p.m. in reference to a man who had fallen from a second story structure. Mike Rodriguez, 69 years old from Austin, was the lead carpenter for a new home that was being built for the Brewer family. Full Story
Freight Truck Takes Out the Power
A freight truck belonging to ABF Freight in Austin made a wrong turn and took out power to a small portion of Lexington last Wednesday morning at approximately 10 a.m. Lexington Police officer BJ Connolly said the driver made a wrong turn on to 2nd Street from Rockdale Street in order to make a delivery to Lexington High School. Ranchers Break Ice During Hard Freeze
Local ranchers were in their pastures daily last weekend, breaking ice on their water troughs and stock tanks so that their livestock could get to water. Thin sheets of ice covered area tanks, regardless of size and depth, during last Friday and Saturday’s record breaking cold. Some ranchers reported 13° early Friday morning and 17° early Saturday morning. Full Story

I never in my wildest dreams thought I would rave over a cilantro dish. But, through my years of cooking, I have really become infatuated with this dark green vegetable. The flavor goes a long way; therefore, I usually use about half of what the recipe calls for. ½ bunch of fresh cilantro 2 cans chicken broth 1 can beef broth 2 tbsp. butter 2-3 tbsp. flour 1-8 oz. pkg. Lady Eagles Drop Florence 42-28
The Lexington Lady Eagles captured their first district win with a 14-point defeat of Florence. Emilie Bell broke out of her scoring doldrums with a 12-point game. Eight Lady Eagles scored making the victory a truly team win. The Lady Eagles improved their free throw shooting percentage from 35% in Tuesday night’s loss to 56% in Friday’s win. Full Story

Lexington had a cold, cold night from the field against Rogers Tuesday night. The tough Eagle defense made the night even colder for Rogers. Lexington could muster only 41 points but the defense allowed Rogers only 21. Full Story
Lexington 8th Grade Girls Win Tourney
The Lexington Middle School girls hosted a four team tournament on Saturday January 9th. The four teams included Rockdale, Taylor, Giddings and Lexington.
In a very exciting conclusion, Lexington 8 and Giddings 8 went head to head for the championship. The first period was an up and down the court affair with little scoring. The first period ended with Lexington up 6-5. Full Story
Lady Eagles Fall to Rogers 36-32
The Lady Eagle basketball team lost for the fourth time in District 25-AA action Tuesday night. The Rogers Lady Eagles escaped with a narrow 36-42 win in Lexington. Coach Ryan Starnes had missed the preparation for the game due to a death in the family. Coach Starnes was able to return to Lexington just prior to the start of the game. Full Story
