She was the eldest of two daughters born to Ernest Abshier and Viola (Stone) Abshier. She celebrated her 93rd birthday this year and nobody would believe that was her age. She was a remarkable, elegant and classy lady who was always aware of her appearance and displayed amazing strength. Her daughters, grandchildren and family celebrate her life with unforgettable memories. As a grandmother, she loved teaching her grandchildren how to be ladies and gentlemen and responsible citizens. She had strong family values and loved her family very much. Her faith was very important to her and she prayed daily for her family. If she could leave a message for her family, it would be ~ love and family is all that really matters. She retired from a large corporation in Houston at the age of 70. She spent her retirement years enjoying her family, her home and planting flowers. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and hummingbirds. She was proud to be a Texan. She was a wonderful person and she gave so much to her family. She will always be in their hearts and we will never forget her. Along with her family, she had many friends and caregivers that will miss her very much. We would like to give our heartfelt thank you to everyone who knew and loved her and those who made her days so very special.

Funeral services for Mrs. Merendino were held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. Burial followed in the Abshier Family Plot at the City of Liberty Cemetery in Liberty, Texas.
