Lady Eagles Stung by Queens

by Mike Organ

The Academy Lady Bees beat Lexington 43-38 Friday night in the final District 25-AA game played in 2009. The loss was Lexington’s second in two district games and dropped their season record to 8- 8.

The Lady Eagles visits to the free throw line were what spelled doom. Lexington was able to make only 8 of 22 charity tosses. When you miss 14 free throws and lose by six, you know what cost you the game. Especially when the op- opponent makes 14 of 23 tries from the same line.

Lexington could only muster a 30% shooting night from the floor and were not able to get many offensive rebounds for easy putbacks. Angel Parks, Deja Griffin, Karley Wren, Nicole Koch, and Veronica Richardson all grabbed four rebounds each.

Griffin led the scoring with 17 points, her best output of the season. Parks had 10 points for the night despite seeing playing time limited by foul trouble.

The Eagle JV won their game against Academy behind McKenzie Brown’s 24-point performance.
