E.J. Hawkins on National Champion Team

by Mike Organ

E.J. Hawkins, a defensive back on the 2005 Eagle football team, was the starting right corner on Northwest Missouri State’s national champion team. Northwest won the championship with a 30- 23 win over Grand Valley State Saturday in Florence, Alabama.

Hawkins had three assisted tackles and one pass broken up in the national championship game televised nationally on ESPN2. Hawkins started every game except one when injured this season. This was Hawkins’ final game for the Bearcats.

NWMS has been in the national final a record five years in a row. This, however, is the first time in the five tries NWMS has won. NWMS won two national titles in 1998 and 99.
