Alfred Bernhard Mertink
Alfred Bernhard Mertink was born on September 18, 1936 in Serbin, Texas to Bernhardt & Alma (Urban) Mertink. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Mertink was united in marriage to Jeanette Pietsch on July 1, 1960 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda. He was a manager for a machine shop for many years.
Mr. Mertink passed away Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Heart Hospital of Austin.
Funeral services were held on Monday, December 14, 2009 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda, Texas. Burial followed in the Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery.
Mr. Mertink was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette; an infant grandson; sister and brother-in-law, Gertrude & Walter Fischer and a brother-inlaw, Reuben Pietsch.
He is survived by his daughter Tracy & Charles Keltner of Mansfield and their children, Sam & Ben; his son, Rusty & Rachel Mertink of Giddings and their children, Cody, Clay & Cole; brother, Monroe & Vernille Mertink of Houston; sister, Irma & Herman Lorenz of Lubbock; his beloved friend, Faye McCroskey of Spring; brother-in-law, Wallace Pietsch of Houston; sisters-in-law, Junell Rowden of Houston and Marlene Pietsch of La Grange as well as numeorus nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Building Fund in Warda, the St. Paul Lutheran Church Restoration Fund in Serbin or the St. Paul Lutheran School in Serbin.
Rusty & Tracy would like to personally acknowledge and thank Faye McCroskey for her love, dedication and compassionship. She has been a huge part of daddy’s life.
