Lady Eagles 2nd at Dime Box
Lexington’s much improved Lady Eagles won second place at the Dime Box tourney held this past weekend. Lexington defeated Mumford for the second time in the week, beat host Dime Box in the second round before losing to perennial power Moulton in the finals.
Lexington defeated Mumford 43-35 Thursday after beating them by only two on Tuesday night. The difference in the game was that Lexington dropped in three three-point shots that forced Mumford to expand their defense, opening up the inside. Rachel Clark led Lexington in scoring with 12 points, six coming on treys. Lexington also controlled the rebounding with Angel Parks and Deja Griffin leading the way with nine caroms collected. Miranda Jones was right behind with eight missed shots grabbed.
In Friday’s game Lexington de- feated the host 37-27. Clark again led the Lady Eagles with 16 points. Parks provided the ball with 10 rebounds and Emilie Bell collected nine boards. Dime Box got off to a great start taking a 13-8 lead in the first quarter. From that point, Dime Box hit a wall scoring only six points total in the next two quarters. Lexington rallied back with12 and 10 points in the same time. The eleven-point lead was too much for Dime Box to overcome. The win propelled Lexington into the championship game Saturday.
Saturday was a different story. Perennial Class A power Moulton proved to be too much for the young Lady Eagles. Lexington had no three-pointers and few rebounds. Moulton ran a patterned, deliberate, offense that led to some easy baskets. No Lady Eagle got into double figures in scoring. Angel Parks led the team with eight points and six rebounds.
