Eagles Grab 2nd @ Dime Box

by Mike Organ

Mumford beat Lexington for the second time in a week to win the Dime Box Tourney Saturday. Lexington lost 65-49 as they narrowed the difference in the game from Tuesday night. Lexington did not let Mumford get out to a big first quarter lead as they did in the first game. Julien Clark put in a whopping 23 points in the loss. Lexington did not have a good third quarter as they scored just eight points after registering double digits in previous quarters. Lexington made use of the three-point shot in the game. Kelden Wren and Clark dropped two each and Jason Washington had one.

To reach the championship game Lexington beat Fayetteville 69-57 in game one Thursday and beat Milano 42-34 in the second round Friday.

Lexington jumped out to a big 24-7 lead in the opening quarter against Fayetteville. The threepoint shot was big again as Phillip Hagen and Clark each hit a pair and Washington added another. The Eagles made a huge improvement at the free-throw line making 20 of 29 tries. Clark and Kaelan Blok were the leading scorers with 18 and 12 points respectively. Hagen was in double figures with 10 points.

In Friday’s 42-34 win over Milano, Clark with 11-poins led the Eagles to victory. Lexington was only six of 12 from the free throw line. The low number of charity tosses showed the Eagle offense did not attack toward the basket. Lexington did have a balanced offense throughout the game. Lexington added four more three-point shots to their tourney total.
