The Aggie/Longhorn game on Turkey Day was a classic. The Aggies gave it their all, but Texas had enough to win the game and keep their national championship hopes alive. Texas avoided the annual letdown that causes them to lose a critical game this season. Texas will play Nebraska this Saturday in the Big XII championship game. A win there takes them to the BCS Championship in Pasadena, California. Go Horns!

The grumbling in Giddings reached the school board meeting during public input time. The speakers spent their time supporting Coach Fitzhenry and his program. One speaker scolded the board for micro managing, doing jobs that professional educators were hired and trained to do. Board members were also accused of having personal agendas concerning their children or a personal coaching choice was not hired or retained. “What about tax rates?” one speaker asked. No one knew the tax rate or how much money needed to be raised. The consensus of the speakers was, “Let the Athletic Director run his program and quit trying to tell him what to do.” I understand that in a related matter there is a possibility of litigation that could cost Giddings ISD what most would consider quite a sum of money.

The Lady Eagles have only 13 days until they start district play. They will play seven or eight games before district starts on December15th in Lago Vista. Lexington is better than last season. They have already won three games; last season they did not get their third victory until January.

The Eagles looked deep in their win over Holland. All twelve players hustled and played hard so they could get more playing time. The game looked good for team effort. The guys open district play January 2nd in Salado.

The Cowboys played better against Oakland on Thanksgiving Day. We are now into December. Dallas has not had a good twelfth month in many seasons. Let’s hope they have the swagger back that will carry them deep into the playoffs.

Lexington Ex-E.J. Hawkins Northwest Missouri State team will be playing in the NCAA Division II national semifinal game against The Bearkats will play California of Pennsylvania Saturday at a site to be determined. Northwest has played in the DII national championship game the last two seasons, losing both. This will be EJ.’s final season with the Bearkats.

Giddings’ Brock Fitzhenry may get a national championship ring, being on the UT squad.
