Giddings Police Report

November 23, 1009

At 6:29 a.m., Officer Spencer, Officer Connolly, Officer Lehmann, Cpl. Carvin, and Sgt. Ray responded to 199 Larabie Cr., in reference to a burglary of a motor vehicle. Kenny Lehmann reported that he exited his residence and approached his Jeep that was parked outside his residence. When he opened the Jeep, he found a subject sitting in the driver’s seat. After Kenny Lehmann observed that the subject had removed the face plate for his stereo, he removed the subject from the Jeep and held him on the ground and called for Police. The suspect was identified as Jesus Marquiz,18. When he was searched, he was found in possession of numerous items identified as coming from other victims. The investigation revealed that a total of nine vehicles were entered for the purpose of committing theft. Marquiz was also found in possession of marijuana and Xanax. Marquiz was later transported to the Lee County Jail where he was charged with nine counts of Burglary of Vehicle, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Controlled Substance.

November 23, 2009

At 7:34 p.m., Officer Griffin initiated a traffic stop at the S. Polk/ E. Hempstead intersection. The driver, George Clay Ealy III of Giddings was placed under arrest for Driving While License Invalid/ Suspended and taken to the Lee County Sheriff ’s Office and released.

November 23, 2009

At 10:23 p.m., Officer Griffin responded to the 600 block of San Marcos in reference to a resident, Isabel Segura Hernandez, stating her residence had been broken into.

November 24, 2009

At 1:44 p.m., Officer Spencer was dispatched to a burglary of building located at 809 S. Madison. Daniel Bradshaw reported that he had three fivegallon gas cans stolen from his storage shed. All three cans reportedly were full of gas. One of the cans was recovered earlier in the day in the 900 block of E. Washington. The case is currently under investigation.

November 25, 2009

At 10:37 a.m., Officer Shepard was dispatched to Hwy 290 East in reference to a hit and run accident and the suspect vehicle had left the scene. Upon arrival in the 2300 block of E. Austin, both the victim and the suspect left the scene, with the victim following the suspect. The victim and the suspect were stopped in Washington County by Deputy Kulow and the suspect was arrested for driving with no operator driver’s license.

November 27, 2009

At approximately 10:00 p.m., Officer Griffin initiated a traffic stop in the 100 block of N. Main. The front passenger, identified as Crystal Salazar of Giddings was placed under arrest for a Theft Warrant issued from the Austin Police Dept. She was taken to the Lee County Sheriff’s office and released. The driver was issued a citation and released.

November 28, 2009

At 2:26 p.m., Officer Spencer and Cpl. Carvin were dispatched to the Brookshire Brothers in reference to a shoplifter being detained in the parking lot. Management reported that Margaret Williams had entered the store with a bunch of loose change. She exchanged the loose change for a ticket to be redeemed at Customer Service. Williams then picked up two boxes of wine totaling $31.98. Williams went to the customer service counter and redeemed the ticket for the loose change. She then left the store without paying for the wine. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Lee County Jail where she was charged with Theft Under $1500.00 With Two Prior Convictions of Theft.

November 29, 2009

At 12:19 a.m., Officer Griffin initiated a traffic stop in the 800 block of E. Austin. The driver, Jeremy Robert Haas of Giddings, was placed under arrest for Driving While License Invalid/ Suspended and taken to the Lee County Sheriff ’s Office and released.

November 29, 2009

At approximately 6:45 a.m., Lee County Sheriff’s Office advised, via radio, that the newspaper delivery person was at Sunny’s Food Mart, located at 507 S. Main, and was reporting that the glass on the front of the store had been shattered. Cpl. Carvin and Officer Spencer responded to the scene and upon arrival, Cpl. Carvin observed one of the two entry doors had been shattered and glass was lying on the ground in the immediate area. She entered the store through the broken door and the audible alarm activated upon entry. The interior of the store appeared untouched and she could not identify any merchandise that may have been stolen. A key holder was notified and arrived on scene and confirmed that nothing appeared missing from the store. Video surveillance is available and will be reviewed when the owner is able to meet with officers. Case active, under investigation.

November 29, 2009

At 7:30 p.m., Sgt. Ramsey received a call from dispatch in reference to a burglary of a vehicle at 1181 N. Williamson, Country Care Plex. Upon arrival she met with the owner of the vehicle, Kenneth Chappel. The back driver side window had been removed and items were taken from the vehicle. This is an active investigation.

November 29, 2009

At 9:52 p.m., Officer Griffin initiated a traffic stop at the S. Madison/E. Hempstead intersection. The driver, David Franklin Mitschke of Giddings, was issued a citation for Displaying a Registration Sticker Assigned to Another Vehicle and released.
