Residents from both Lee and Burleson counties competed last week in the 2009 Lee/Burleson County Pecan Bake Show, sponsored by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service.

Winners in the Youth categories were: Breads - Grand Champion, Jordan Fryrear, Pecan Pie Mini Muffins; Reserve, Coy Cass, Maple Pecan Bread; Cakes - Grand Champion, Sarah Kovar, Caramel Turtle Cake; Reserve, Natalee See, Graham Cracker Coffee Cake; Candies - Grand Champion, Noah Kovar, Pecan Brittle; Reserve, Amanda Zgabay, Sugared Pecans; Cookies - Grand Champion, Natalee See, Rainbow Cookie Bars; Reserve, Carlee See, Magic Cookie Bars; Pies - Grand Champion, Carlee See, Pecan Pie; Reserve, Natalee See, Pecan Pie; Miscellaneous - Grand Champion, Hannah Zgabay, Salted Roasted Pecans.

Taking many Grand and Reserve Champions, in the Adult category, were Arlene Feathers and Maggie Freeman. Winning recipes included: Pumpkin Pecan Bread, Pecan Cinnamon Rolls, Pecan Coffee Cake, Pecan Pumpkin Crunch Cake, Pecan Brittle Candy, Oatmeal Pecan Cookies, Pecan Tea Cakes, Pumpkin Pecan Pie, Southern Sweet Potato Pecan Pie.
