Spiced Apple Cider

Traditions are never more apparent than during the holidays when friends and family gather to celebrate. It’s the time of year when we like to do nice things for those we love. Hot apple cider is a good way to start no matter if it is a small gettogether or an afternoon visit with friends.
½ gallon apple cider
1 cup sugar
2 tsps whole cloves
1 whole nutmeg
2 cups orange juice
½ cup lemon juice
½ cup apple brandy (optional)
Cinnamon sticks

Combine apple cider and sugar in a Dutch oven. Tie cloves and nutmeg in a cheesecloth bag; add to cider mixture. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes. Remove spice bag and add juices. Stir in brandy, if desired. Simmer until heated. Serve with cinnamon stick stirrers. Yields 2 1/2 quarts.
