Region IV Cross Country

by Mike Organ

The Eagle Cross Country team ran hard but none qualified for the state meet this week. Lauren Johnston was the lone Lady Eagle to compete. She finished 13th, just three places from qualifying for state.

Coach Josh Munson said this about the meet. “Unfortunately our season ended today, but we finished it up with some great races. Lauren finished 3 places short of qualifying individually for the state meet. She ran her best race of the season and finished 5 seconds faster than last year, but today it wasn’t enough. I could not be more proud of how she continued to work throughout the season. She had some tough races early on, but has built up some positive momentum heading into track season. The district schools ran really well in the girls race, with 7 girls in the top 13. This is a testament to the quality of our district. The boys were led to an 8th place finish today by Jason and Jeff. Both ran gutsy races to place in the top 30. Jason’s 18:02 is over a minute faster than he ran last year. This group of guys has worked extremely hard this year, and this team finish is the highest that I am aware of. Aaron Berry and Jeff Pena ran their last races for us today. They have played key roles in our success over the last 3 and 2 years respectively, and we’ll really miss them and fellow seniors Caleb McBride and John Turner next year.
