Middle School Basketball News
The boys middle school basketball season got under way Thursday November 11th in Academy against the Bees. This year Lexington 8th graders started off with a B team. These young Eagles, some for the first time ever to play basketball put up a good effort but fell short in their opening bid losing 13-4.
Lexington 7th grade began their middle school basketball careers on a fast pace with losts of quick breaks and layups. The 7th grade team had enough players to completely substiute out as needed. While there was plenty of good play, by half time the young Eagles were trailing by a score of 20-9. With increased effort and drive they went through the second half on a mission, but the end result was Academy over Lexington 41- 17.
The last game of the night, turned out ot be the best for the Eagle middle school basketball teams. The 8A tipped off and immediately put Academy on notice. Coach Tucker had the young men hustling down the court. He used several defensive sets and incorporated some fast break action as well. The first period went by with a score of Lexington leading 9-8. The second period was similar to the first and the Eagles lead at half time was only 2 with a score of 16- 14. A half time talk by Coach Tucker brought the young Eagles back on court and the defense strengthened and allowed Academy to score onlt 2 points in the 3rd period while Lexington’s lead improved to 13 points with a score of 29-16. With the start of the 4th period, the young Eagles were confident and the outcome was all but secured. The final score was Lexington winning 40-21. A talented Eriq Mitchell anchored the team with a notable London Jacob providing some very important under the basket rebounds and scoring. The next game for the Middle School Boys Basketball team will be Thrusday November 20th against the Salado Eagles in Lexington.
