Lady Red Raiders Deal UT Lady Horns First Loss

Lexington’s Amanda Dowdy Leads TT
by Mike Organ

The stands at the University of Texas Volleyball court were “influenced” by a deligation from Lexington last Wednesday night (November 11). The Lady Raiders of Texas Tech, led by Lexington’s Amanda Dowdy, defeated the UT Lady Longhorns 25-19 in the first game of a four game match in Austin that night.

The first game loss was the first game lost in a match at UT this season. Texas is 22-1 for the season and Tech is 2-22. Dowdy had five kills and a couple of blocks in the first game win. She also had a service ace against the #2 team in the nation.

Dowdy, a sophomore, leads the Lady Raiders in kills with 253 for the 24 games. Amanda has 41 blocks this season. She also has 140 digs which is second most on the team. Not bad for a 6’3” player whose main purpose is a front line player.

Dowdy was named to the All Big XII freshman team in 2008, her first full season of university action after leading Lexington to the Region III finals in 2007.

Dowdy is the daughter of Sam and Rhonda Dowdy of Lexington.
